‘Overdependence on Technology will Advance Human Development’

Human beings have been blessed with the ability to think, use their mind for a reason. And with their skills and abilities, they have successfully managed to convert the "gifts of nature" as "resources". Resources that can benefit living beings, that can create a better world. These resources enabled humans to strive to invent and through this ability, humans have developed society and made technological inventions.
And since then, technology has been present in every possible sphere. The way we think, the way we live, the way we communicate, the way we travel, the way we learn, every possible thing has been changed due to technological advancements. It has simplified the way we do things.
Due to technological advancements health care facilities have improved and doctors have been successful in saving innocent lives. Now, most challenging diseases can be cured with the development of new drugs and health care facilities. Technology has prolonged the human life span.
Technology has entered the education sector as well. Now students get a friendly environment to learn, the reach of teachers to their students have simplified. Learning through smart classes have made long lectures interesting and fun filled. Use of internet for distant learning, use of smart whiteboards for visual illustrations have all been possible due to technological advancements.
Communication technology has changed over the years and has only become better. It has made communication easier, smoother and faster. From fixed landlines to cordless phones to smart phones, communication has come a long way. Now we can even see the people we are talking with, on our phones. Thanks to science and technology.
Technological advancements in agriculture have been of great importance in developing world. Automated water sprinklers, genetically produced plants, agricultural machinery have benefited the world in feeding the population.
Technology has been of great importance in the economic development of a nation. Effective and efficient utilization of natural resources, increase in the speed of production, better quality of products, better efficiency of labour, has all been due to technological advancements in.
Science and technology finds its place in almost every possible sector and this has facilitated the economic growth of a nation. Technological inventions and advancements have made human life easier and simpler. It has brought the world closer with the expansion of internet. Technology has made humans to do what once looked impossible. The development of self driving cars is one example.
Dependence on technology has made humans more knowledgeable and hence more wiser. People are now leading a more informed life. With better quality education, fast communication, smooth transportation, technology has advanced human development.
But it is to be realised that Human development is not just technological advancements. It is much more than just that. Technology is just a small part which facilities human development. Human development is about socio-economic equality, a society where haves and have nots stand on the same platform. Where people get equal opportunities and everybody is fair and just with one another. when people do not have to compromise on ethical standards, this is the real Human Development.
As cleared earlier, human development can be facilitated to a great extent by technology. But "overdependence" over anything , be it on technology shows its negative influence.
Dependence on technology on one hand has made our work faster and simpler. On the other it has made us impatient. We want quick downloads of our files, we want people to immediately receive our calls. On one hand technology has contracted the world and on other has left us with no time to spend with our loved ones.
As stated earlier, that humans are the only ones who are blessed with brains to think and invent. These inventions have also led to competition between countries for weapon engineering. Countries compete for the development of new warfare and spend huge money on developing weapons rather than improving the quality of life of their own people. Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki clearly show the disastrous effects, that technology can have on humanity.
Technology has made people lethargic, their dependence over phones, internet have added mental stress, obesity, depression in their accounts. And not just that, though technological innovations are touching sky, but their impacts can be seen clearly in the degradation of nature. Global warming, climate change, melting of glaciers, increased sea level, ozone depletion have been mainly due to overdependence on technology.
Thus in order to create a balance between technology and human development, humans need to become careful and wise. They need to understand that technology can be a good slave but a bad master. When technology put in for best use, it further lays foundation for more innovations and betterment of mankind and when used negatively it can create havoc in the humanity.
